Reuben Sceats is a musician, producer, composer, and music tutor known for his work in performance, teaching, and music production. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music & Creativity, and has been active in both New Zealand and the UK music scenes.
He has experience as a composer, arranger, sound designer, mixer, guitarist, singer and he has produced and recorded music, including full-length albums and EPs, and worked with artists in various recording settings. He has performed live with his own band and solo with his own music for a number of years in NZ and now London.
Reuben has been teaching guitar and songwriting since 2016, helping students of all ages and skill levels. His tutoring integrates music theory with practical playing and creativity. Much loved by his students, Reuben has taught people from as young as five to as old as 68, including people suffering with degenerative neurologic conditions such as Parkinsons’ disease.

Recent Projects
Fugue State
Fugue State was my band in Wellington, NZ. I was the songwriter, frontman and producer.
This EP’s focus was to have a diverse range of moods and flavours, with groove being the main priority. After recording all tracks in the studio, I realised the songs lacked the playful energy they had live, so most of the EP was captured from a live gig. I handled all of the mixing and mastering, and my focus was trying to strike a balance between raw live feel and studio polish.

Reuben Sceats
One of my main musical passions is writing singer songwriter acoustic songs. I like to use this style of writing to workout thoughts and life problems. Acoustic recordings also bring a huge challenge in production and are often far more challenging then recording a full band, there is less to hide behind.
Singer-Songwriter
I was the producer, songwriting support, session player and assistant engineer for this album released in 2025. I workshopped the songs with the writer for several months before we went to the studio. I helped with arrangements, structure, instrument choices, and tone. I then helped and participated in a weeks worth of rehearsals with the band. We recorded this album at The Surgery Studios alongside award winner engineer and studio owner Lee Prebble.
I played guitar on all the tracks, keyboard on a few, and sang four. I also wrote and performed all the vocal harmonies.
This album was the writers passion project and it was a great experience and honour to work on and be trusted with.
